We recently saw a Tik Tok video of a Melbourne gastroenterologist, in the supermarket, advising people to avoid commercial kombucha brands because of their “no sugar” messaging. While we appreciated him acknowledging the falsity of these particular sugar free brands, it unfortunately lumped all commercial kombucha producers into the one basket.
It’s true, kombucha that claims to be sugar free fundamentally cannot be authentic, live kombucha, and doesn’t do much for your gut health.
What’s not true is the suggestion that all commercial kombucha brands brew that way.
Two Boys Brew Kombucha is the first Australian kombucha brand to be certified by Kombucha Brewers International as “Raw & Unprocessed”.
This means, you can know with certainty that our brew is real and good for you.
You can read more about the certification here: https://kombuchabrewers.org/kbi-verified-seal-program/
It’s imperative that experts such as the gastroenterologist above don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater when it comes to educating patients (or the public in general) on the benefits and validity of authentic commercial kombucha.
We pride ourselves on making a booch that you can feel better with.
Our kombucha is made using a blend of white and green tea, sugar and our SCOBY aka the Mother. We let it sit, ferment and do its thing until it’s ready to flavour.
From there we blend our brew with an infusion of botanicals. Not “natural flavours", not chemical additives - actual plant botanicals.
Silk Road: Ginger, Lemon Myrtle, Cinnamon & Clove
French Kiss: Hibiscus, Vanilla, Chamomile & Lavender
Grand Bazaar: Elderflower, Rose, Jasmine & Butterfly Pea
Then we put it in a bottle for you. That’s it.
It’s as raw and natural as kombucha can be.
We know that the gut microbiome plays a central role in digestion and immune function, and diets rich in fermented foods have been associated with increased gut microbial diversity.
We’ve tested our booch. We know it contains microbial diversity along with organic acids to help the body absorb those microbes.
So when the question is being asked, “Is kombucha good for gut health?” we need to make sure that the question is being directed towards the authentic, raw kombucha brands.
